Intro #002 : Cannon Fodder (Sensible Software)

April 20th, 2006

Cannon Fodder Game: Cannon Fodder [H.264] (12.57 MB) [DivX] (14.3 MB)
Developer: Sensible Software
Publisher: Virgin Interactive
Released: 1993

Awesome point-and-click game. Simple yet very effective concept.

Intro was very simple, but very effective and the soundtrack was very, very catchy. “Stoo” does look too much like Elvis as well.

“War…has never been so much fun!”

Demo #006 : Fruit Kitchen (Silents)

April 14th, 2006

Fruit Kitchen Demo: Fruit Kitchen [H.264] [DivX]
Group: Silents
Released: August, 1995

This was the last demo that the Silents released on the Amiga. A very sad day. It was released at “The Assembly 1995″ where it came 4th (source Amiga Demoscene Archive).

In my opinion it suffered from a problem that most Amiga demos had (after about 1992), and that was trying to do a “doom-style” first person fly through at really crappy resolutions.

As far as I’m concerned that was where the whole demoscene started to fall apart as there was too much concentration on getting “doom-style” sections and the type of innovations seen earlier in the 90s had just died by the wayside.

The demo “Blood Kitchen” advertised as ‘coming soon’, at the end of this demo, obviously never actually made it.

Demo Archive (.lha format): [LHA Archive] I’ll try and stay away from these ‘file-based’ demos in the future, and keep it to the disk-based ones, as they are better anyway.

Broke 100 subscribers in 24-hour period!

April 14th, 2006

Excellent, it’s getting quite some attention (more than I’d anticipated at any rate).

I’ve broken the 100 subscriptions in a 24-hour period.  Not sure on the total subscribers though.

Sadly though, there doesn’t seem to be a similar level of activity on the web site. Just downloads via the feed. :(

Still, it’s better than my first estimates.

Older Amigas Needed (Donations Please)

April 13th, 2006

I’ve already come across a couple of demos that haven’t exactly played very well when it comes to running on an A1200.

Whilst I have an A600 (on loan) I’m not going to be able to run all the demos on even that, especially some of the very stubborn A500 demos there are out there.

This will also be even more of a problem for some of the games as I know there are plenty that flat refuse to run on anything other than an A500.

So I’m putting a shout out for donations (buttons at the top of the page), whatever you can spare, it’ll all help me bring you the best in Amiga Games/Demos in the future.

Thanks in advance,
Terry

Where are you from?

April 13th, 2006

To get a better idea of how many subscribers I have and where they are from I’ve set up an group on Frappr.

Please head over to the Amiga Demo Podcast Frappr Group and press in a pushpin.

Cheers.

Intro #001 : Another World (Delphine Software)

April 12th, 2006

Another World Game: Another World [H.264] [DivX]
Developers: Delphine Software
Publisher: US Gold
Released: 1991

A nice atmospheric, scene setting intro to a truly ground-breaking game.

In some ways a very similar idea to the demo State of the Art because it seems to be completely vector-based animation (I’m sure someone will tell me differently, if it’s the case), but without all the other clever stuff from State of the Art.

Update (14/04/2006): Another World has actually been updated with better graphics (only for the PC sadly) [res. upto 1280×800] and can be purchased for the lovely price of 7 EUR. Get a demo of it here.

NEW Theme for the site!

April 12th, 2006

I’ve spent some time creating a new theme for the site.  Didn’t like the old fixed-width one I had before.  On screens bigger than 1024 wide it looked really appauling (too much waste).  So I did this variable width theme, and added just a splash of “Amiga-ness” about it too.

Click here to see my 404 (page not found) error, rather a nice touch :D

Let me know what you think of the new theme either as a comment to this post, or preferably in the forums.  Cheers

NEW Amiga “Game Intro” Podcast coming soon.

April 12th, 2006

From scouting round the various forums that my site is mentioned, there has been quite a few people hoping for a “Game Intro” podcast.

Seeing as my host (Servage) has kindly tripled my disk space and added an extra 50GB onto my monthly bandwidth I thought this would be an apt time to begin the Game Intro Podcast for all those people who desire such a thing.

I will be making a completely separate feed available, so that the Games/Demos can remain separate…watch this space.

Demo #005 : Hardwired (Crionics/Silents)

April 8th, 2006

Origin Demo: Hardwired [H.264] [DivX]
Group: Crionics/Silents
Released: December, 1991

I remember when I first saw this demo and thought “Oooh! Video!”.

Has some nice effects, and a very dark soundtrack.

Hope you enjoy this one was a right bugger to capture, had to whip out my A600 and actually run it off floppy disks because it was complaining a bit on the A1200 (didn’t look pretty). It weighs it at a nice 61MB too!

Still at least it’s free of glitches and errors.

Another classic made for the original Amiga 500 computer.

Disk Images (.adz format): [Disk 1] [Disk 2] To convert to an ADF, use either WinZip or gzip.

New Demo out tomorrow

April 8th, 2006

Been having a few issues with the capturing of the video (got to redo it).

So it has been delayed for 24 hours. Sorry
